The XXV. Jubilee World Buiatric Congress Welcome Reception is the first social opportunity to meet colleagues and friends in the vibrating city of Budapest. The opening ceremony followed by a reception is planned to be held in a new, fascinating cultural building called the Palace of Arts. The building which is an impressive representation of modern art of Budapest is located directly on the bank of the Danube. The programme of this night will give you a taste of the Hungarian culture, traditions, music and dances spiced with the taste of the best wines and dishes of the country. The highlight of the XXV. Jubilee World Buiatric Congress is the Gala Dinner which will be held on the Castle Hill in the Royal Palace on Thursday evening. Coupling with a glass of champagne you can enjoy the breathtaking city panorama from the castle’s terraces. The castle district has exceptional history and atmosphere, which is heighten by the beautiful lightning of the buildings. The open-air - in case of good weather – dinner is planned to be held in the Lion’s Courtyard within the premises of the Budapest Historical Museum and the National Gallery. The elegant four course menu is escorted with good Hungarian wines and evergreen dance music until dawn. Make sure to reserve your places to this unforgettable evening in time, as there are limited numbers of places available.

Traditional Hungarian Dinner at Lázár Equestrian Park

The equestrian park was established in the very heart of the Gödöllő Hills by the world champion of carriage riding Lázár brothers. The Park is situated 35 km from Budapest in the picturesque Domonyvölgy.
Take a walk in the Hungarian village yard where the guests can become familiar with ancient Hungarian domestic livestock breeds (grey cattle, long-wooled sheep, mangalica pig, puli dog, etc.).
We would like to invite you to taste our Hungarian cuisine, wine and enjoy our tradition. The programme includes an equestrian show, dinner with folk and gipsy music. Bus transportation is provided.

Evening Danube Cruise and Party

Evening sightseeing-tour on the River Danube. Welcome-drink and a light dinner will be served on the boat. During the meal a Hungarian jazz band plays evergreens. The boat is cruising from Margaret bridge to the National Theatre and the Palace of Arts, and you can enjoy the fascinating sight of the illuminated Budapest.

The Jewish Sights of Budapest

A three-hour long walking tour in the world’s second largest Synagogue and its surroundings including an inside visit of the Synagogue complex (Jewish Museum, ghetto and World War II area history). The Synagogue and the nearby Jewish Quarter have a very rich history. By the end of the 18th century the Jewish people were allowed to leave the Buda side of the city and they create this area known as the Jewish quarter of Budapest on the Pest side.

Danube Bend Tour

The whole day programme includes visiting Esztergom, the birthplace of the first Hungarian King and the residence of the Hungarian Cardinal Archbishop (Basilica, Treasury). Afterwards a short walk at the picturesque Visegrád, which was aslo the seat of the Hungarian Kings, exploring the ruins of the old Royal Palace and the medieval fortress. Lunch will be served at the Reneissance Restaurant, which offers unique atmosphere and good cuisine. On the way back we stop at Szentendre, the colorful artists settlement.

Lake Balaton

Saturday-Sunday, July 5-6, 2008

Excursion along the north part of Lake Balaton. First programme is a visit to the more than 150 years old Herend Porcelaine Manufacture. Visitors can discover how the bulky bats of paste are turned into the most delicate porcelain. Across the attractive courtyard – Porcelanium Square – is the Herend Porcelain Museum, a treausure trove of priceless porcelain pieces.
In the afternoon excursion to the Lake Balaton which is called as the ”Hungarian See”. It is the largest sweetwater lake in Central Europe and is very famous for its wine also.
Accommodation at Balatonfüred, on the shore of the lake in a nice resort hotel is included. Dinner and wine tasting will be offer at a traditional Hungarian Csárda.
On the second day will be walk at Balatonfüred, which is a historical Hungarian holiday resort. Afterwards excursion to peninsula Tihany, its Abbey was founded nearly 1000 years ago. Standing near the Abbey the visitors can admire the beautiful landscape of the entire Lake Balaton.

Eastern part of Hungary – Wine-region of Tokaj

Saturday-Sunday, July 5-6, 2008

A two-day excursion to the Northern and Eastern part of Hungary, first to the wine-region of Eger which is famous for its red wine, the Bulls’ Blood. Visit of the medieval fortress and the baroque town of Eger, and also a short impression of the Szépasszony Valley the location of the traditional vineyards and cellars. Overnight in a castle hotel nearby.
Second day, tour to the town of Tokaj, the centre of the Tokaj wine-region where 186 working cellars can be found. An optional tour to the mountains and the cellars is planned. Visit to Sárospatak, the cultural centre of the region, where one of our most beautiful and historically famous renaissance monument, the castle of Sárospatak can be found at the feet of the hills of the Zemplén Mountains.

Excursion to Hortobágy National Park

Hortobágy is the largest continuous natural grassland in Europe, which means that it was not formed as a result of deforestation or river control. The first Hungarian national park (established in 1973) is the country’s largest protected area (82 thousand hectares). The tour will start with a visit of grey cattle and other ruminants. This will be followed by lunch.

Excursion to Cattle-Breeding Farm of Enying Agricultural Co.

The Cattle breeding farm of Enying Agricultural Co. is one of the biggest dairy farms all over Hungary having nearly 4000 dairy cattle. Two-thousend Holstein-Friesian high producing cows are kept at Kiscséripuszta dairy farm (intented to visit) producing 9000 kg of milk/cow yearly. The herd is free from tuberculosis, brucellosis, leucosis and no leptospirosis occurs. The Hungarian dairy farms are working in a closed system therefore visitors can only use special areas which make possible to have an overview on the farm. The stuff of the farm is in close collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Science. The tour includes a Hungarian lunch in a traditional “Csárda”.

Cancellation Policy of Social and Optional Programmes and Tours

All the cancellations and changes must be sent to the Congress Organiser (Blaguss Congress Bureau) in written form.

All refunds will be processed after the WBC 2008 Congress. Please send your exact bank account details in the written cancellation.

Refund of the optional social events and tours will be made as follows:

  • 100% refund (minus an administrative fee of 50 Euro) - in case of cancellation received before June 6, 2008 in case of pre- and post tours.
  • No refund - in case of cancellation received after June 6, 2008
  • If the tour is not completed, the entire fee will be refunded.
